The Semantic War (2018, 90 mins) is a documentary film about Kremlin propaganda and its impact on European society.

The director argues that most people in Russia do not critically examine information from mainstream media. According to producer Inna Kurochkina, the Kremlin is playing a dangerous game.  Using semantic methods, Putin changed how Russians think about their society, away from liberal democracy toward an aggressive society with medieval political and human rights views.  Russians, the film argues, are in a kind of “trance” and can’t fully appreciate the ways in which their views of the world have been intentionally reshaped.  Ms. Kurochkina will stay after the film screening for a discussion.

The discussion will be in English.
