Russia Still Fabricating And Spreading Lies

The Head of the Russian Information Spetsnaz and a member of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a blatantly false report today, giving an outright lie an almost official endorsement.

Dr. Igor Panarin posted a link to this article, Media: Secret British 77 Brigade is involved in special operations in Ukraine

The article starts off with this:

Yesterday, December 2, the BBC Russian Service reported that several military groups from the secret 77th brigade of the British army are in Ukraine. According to the channel, over a thousand people serve in this brigade, who “carry out military tasks on the Internet, psychological influence and informational operations.”

My apologies, Igor, but an exhaustive search of the BBC ‘Russia Service’, in Russian, reveals an article about a Russian journalist filming near a facility where the 77th Brigade is located. This resulted in a UK special alert that Russian journalists were seeking access to military bases and naming the journalist.  There is no BBC report, Russian Service or otherwise, stating that members of the 77th Brigade were serving in or even supporting Ukraine.  Furthermore, a Google search for 77th Brigade and Ukraine, in various permutations and compositions, reveals no reports of members of the 77th Brigade anywhere near Ukraine or supporting Ukraine.

The incident with the Russian journalist and the resultant alert is mentioned in the article, Media: Secret British 77 Brigade is involved in special operations in Ukraine. The rest of the article is completely fabricated. That is how Russian disinformation often works, including a kernel of truth surrounded by a lie.

Sorry, Igor, Russian disinformation attacks are growing tiresome.

The offending article is below.

Media: Secret British 77 Brigade is involved in special operations in Ukraine

12/03/2018 – 8:56

Yesterday, December 2, the BBC Russian Service reported that several military groups from the secret 77th brigade of the British army are in Ukraine. According to the channel, over a thousand people serve in this brigade, who “carry out military tasks on the Internet, psychological influence and informational operations.”

The Russian embassy responded to this news, noting that Britain is expanding its presence in Ukraine on the eve of the presidential elections to be held at the end of March next year. The embassy stressed that the consequences of these steps in London have yet to be assessed.

“At one time, the UK supported a coup in Kiev and the coming to power of the so-called government of winners in violation of the constitutional order in the country,” the statement said.

And on November 21, the appearance of the crew of the First Channel of Russian television near a military facility in Berkshire County caused a real panic, a secret warning sent by the Department of Defense to the British military, and even an urgent message to the country’s power ministers.

The correspondent of Channel One Timur Siraziyev and cameraman Dmitry Volkov on November 21 were spotted near the location of the 77th army brigade in the forests near the village of Hermitage. Specialization of the brigade – cyberwar, the fight against terrorist propaganda on the Internet, psychological operations, work in social networks and in the darknet.

Surveillance cameras recorded the actions of the Russians: they were shooting from the car, drove close to the fence of barbed wire and tried to penetrate the base. Their silver Toyota was also spotted in the village, next to the soldiers ’barracks and houses where the officers of the 77th brigade and their families live.

Siraziyev responded to the charges on his Instagram page: “I am a journalist, not a spy! Today in the British media they write about us. They write a lie. I make a story about it. Details in the news on the first “, – he wrote.

The next day, November 22, an 8-minute report by Siraziyev and Volkov about the “troll factory near London” was shown on Russian television in the Vremya program.

What is the 77 team?

The activity of a special unit of the British army takes place in cyberspace. Unofficially, 77 brigades are called “Chindits” – in honor of the division of the British and Indian army created during the Second World War in Burma. The Chindits fought behind enemy lines, engaging in sabotage and subversive activities.

The BBC Russian Service writes about this unit as follows:  “The duties of the 77th brigade include conducting cyber attacks on terrorist computer networks, fighting propaganda on the Internet, and countering piracy and extremism in the deep network (dark web)”.

“Now several groups of the military of this profile are in Ukraine to learn how to protect computer systems from cyber attacks. The unit also instructs government forces in Iraq and in North African countries, ”the BBC said without hesitation.

In the 77 brigade serve 1,200 people, many of them – with diplomas in computer specialties. The division has three main areas of work – the implementation of military tasks on the Internet, psychological impact and information operations.

The Daily Mail describes them as “people who are experts in new technologies — they can intercept messages, track and listen to users’ mobile phones.”
