People share their personal feelings and Thoughts, they mourn and rejoice, tend to spontaneous reactions, give but also – intentional or better Knowledge – unchecked or even incorrect information continue. The digital public relations, specifically the commentary behavior of Media users, changing their fundamentally change the public debate culture: There is potential, especially for young people groups, variously improved participation possibilities of social discourse as well in political opinion and opinion formation.
At the same time, however, this culture of debate also harbors high risks for the democratic discourse
For news providers and their editors and journalism as a whole represents the dialogue with the audience,
especially the sighting, moderation, examination and unlocking comments, not only
an ideal design option, but above all, it is one thing: frustrating. While research and publication of protected information to the core tasks serious report – the moderation of user discourses by editors in the commentary columns of their news offers – in the face of lack of resources – after felt before as an unpleasant additional task.
On behalf of the State Institute for Media NRW and with financial support from Google Germany, we have the discussion behavior of the users of leading News marks in the network and their concrete moderation strategies examined. analyzed were the editorial websites respectively respectively a social media appearance of Deutschlandfunk Culture, RP Online, RTL and Tagesschau.de. in the center of interest was the question how journalistic media interact with their audience through targeted strategies and editorial control mechanisms (in Moderation, Community Management, Audience Commitment, deletion practices) User discourses accompany constructively and excessive debates can regulate. The study should be editorial Starting points in (potentially) hate-driven show discussions to these easily to be able to integrate into daily editorial work.
