In a textbook example of blameshifting, Russia is accusing Ukraine of what Russia is most likely responsible for, targeting journalists within Ukraine.

This has been a common tactic for Russia since Putin’s third term as President. This coincides with the buildup of the Russian information warfare machine and the widespread attacks on freedom of speech and freedom of the press inside Russia.

Sputnik itself was stood up in 2014, as a part of this expansion, to add another propaganda tool to Russia’s toolbox.
