#MeToo in Russia

The case of Leonid Slutsky, a member of the State Duma of Russia, accused by three female journalists of sexual harassment, is bringing worldwide attention.

The New Yorker has an excellent article about the current and past history of Russia and sexual harassment.  Russia Finally Gets Its #MeToo Moment.

NPR has full coverage about #MeToo in Russia, How One Woman’s Story Helped Set #MeToo In Motion In Russia.

Then, I wondered how Russia is covering this story and found it in the nearly independent Moscow Times, #Metoo, Russian-Style (Op-ed), Russia isn’t ready for Oprah Winfrey’s victory speech

I was shocked that RT is broadcasting a fair and objective story about Leonid Slutsky, a member of the State Duma of Russia, as a member of the LDPR party.  Here is it in all its glory. or

According to RT, Russia is all over this story, several news outlets are boycotting the Duma to protest the actions of Slutsky – which has been de facto approved by the investigative committee.

Clearly, this appears to be a story of a powerful institution in Russia lacking self-governance and refusing to uphold laws passed during the Soviet era, which are still 0bligatory.
