Russia, Smarting From Morgan Freeman Video, Attacks The Messenger

In my last post I stated normal Russian tactics for dealing with highly effective rhetoric. Russian official strategy whenever confronted:

  • Deny, deny, deny
  • Attack the messenger
  • Attack the message
  • Say “we have nukes”

For today’s lesson, boys and girls, please identify what the Kremlin is doing here:

  • “Is Morgan Freeman Stressed Out? The Kremlin Thinks So” (The headline)
  • “Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman is suffering from emotional stress”
  • “Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday dismissed Freeman’s words “as purely emotional” in a conference call with reporters”
  • “Peskov described those leading the campaign as being in a state of “emotional exaltation, a continuation of a form of McCarthyism.””

By Jove, I think you’ve got it, dear readers!

Yes, Peskov does not have a meaningful response, so he is attacking the messenger. Notice, he knows it is too late for a denial.  “In the Now” already attacked the message and tried to deny it, and failed miserably. Russia, Smarting From Morgan Freeman Video, Responds Via “In The Now” And Fails. Plan B?  Peskov attacks the messenger.

Allow me to point out the obvious now.  Rob Reiner, and the others on the Committee to Investigate Russia do NOT love President Trump.  Most of the board members are ‘Never-Trumpers’.

  • Max Boot Military Historian and Foreign Policy Analyst
  • James Clapper Former Director of National Intelligence
  • Norman Ornstein American Enterprise Institute Resident Scholar
  • Rob Reiner Director, Actor, and Activist
  • Charles Sykes Conservative Commentator

They all, however, love the United States. In probably the single most effective video ever made exposing Russian Information Warfare, Morgan Freeman makes a simple, yet very effective video highlighting Russian Information Warfare attacks against the United States and the West. RT published this version, unedited, but framed it as “Anti-Russia Rant”.  Heh, you have to know this video got beneath Russia’s skin.  Search for this on YouTube and see all the denigrating versions of this…

The Moscow Times published the below article. I like their sense of humor. Keep up the good work from within.

Is Morgan Freeman Stressed Out? The Kremlin Thinks So

Sep 20, 2017 — 13:52 — Update: Sep. 21 2017 — 05:24

Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman is suffering from emotional stress, the Kremlin said on Wednesday in response to a campaign calling for an investigation into Russian interference into U.S. affairs.

In a video shared online on Monday, Freeman said the United States was “at war” with Russia.

The U.S. is carrying out three Congressional investigations and an independent special counsel probe into allegations that Russia influenced the 2016 presidential election in support of President Donald Trump.

The Committee to Investigate Russia, the non-profit group which published Freeman’s appeal, says it wants to help Americans “understand the gravity of Russia’s continuing attacks on our democracy.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday dismissed Freeman’s words “as purely emotional” in a conference call with reporters.

“Many creative people fall prey to emotional stress without real information about the real state of things,” he was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.

The Committee to Investigate Russia lists film director Rob Reiner and former U.S. National Intelligence Director James Clapper as two advisory board members. It states on its website that “too many Americans and too many of our elected officials are ignoring or not understanding Russia’s attacks against our country.”

Peskov described those leading the campaign as being in a state of “emotional exaltation, a continuation of a form of McCarthyism.”

“With time this will pass,” he said.
