‘Lion of Mosul’ Heroic Iraqi soldier infiltrates ISIS before gunning down SIX jihadis

Mohammed Qasim, the “Lion of Mosul”, Iraqi Special Forces

I first saw a reference to this in an obscure listing on Facebook, so I clicked on it. I thought perhaps it was fun propaganda, and at worst, a sensational headline.  It turns out that the truth is more fascinating than fiction.

An Iraqi Special Forces soldier volunteered for the ultimate dangerous mission, infiltrated ISIS, gathered sensitive information, and then shot six ISIS scum.

I thought to myself, that’s going to make a great movie plot, but there’s no way that’s real. That takes more guts than James Bond, John Wayne, and Vasily Zaitsev rolled into one.

So… I went in search of.

It turns out his name is Mohammed Qasim, his nickname is now the “Lion of Mosul”, and he is a certified hero.

The intelligence and information he obtained enabled Iraqi forces to capture Mosul.

Expect to see this soldier become an inspiration for generations of Iraqis.

Heroic Iraqi Fighter Goes Undercover Behind ISIS Lines, Shoots Six, Gets Vital Info

A 25-year-old Iraqi special forces member, committed to one of the most dangerous actions in recent history, disguised himself as a member of ISIS, went behind enemy lines in Mosul, and shot six ISIS fanatics before gathering information on ISIS positions and key sniper and machine gun teams in order to guarantee the precision of an attack on ISIS by Iraqi special forces ground troops.

Last Thursday, Mohammed Qasim, fighting with the Iraqi special forces Golden Division and called the “Lion of Mosul,” took an AK-47, then crossed through no-man’s lad wearing a ragged smock and scarf before killing the six ISIS fighters and ascertaining where ISIS fighters had stationed themselves to pin down Iraqi forces with enemy fire.

Once Qasim returned, Iraqi special forces ground troops hit ISIS forces with precise mortar bombs and air strikes, then launched a full-on infantry attack.

General Abdul Wahab al-Saadi said: “We are all very proud of what this soldier did. He is a very brave man. He makes us all hold our heads up high.”

One source told the Daily Mirror:

What this man did was incredibly brave. If he was captured he would have been tortured very slowly and held up as a trophy by Islamic State fighters. He didn’t even think twice when the idea came up and he made himself a volunteer immediately. Golden Division commanders knew their men were being pinned down by accurate IS fire and couldn’t work out exactly where it was coming from. So they approved a plan for an undercover operation, probably the most audacious of the entire operation, and Mohammed said he would do it, without a thought for his own safety.

On Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared final victory in Mosul, saying, “I announce from here the end and the failure and the collapse of the terrorist state of falsehood and terrorism which the terrorist Daesh announced from Mosul.”

The battle for the city lasted roughly nine months. Roughly 130,000 troops from Iraq, Kurdish forces and Shia militia battled against ISIS. 900,000 people fled the city.
