The United States and Ukraine might sign a security agreement stipulating for placement of American military equipment in Ukraine.

A POMCUS site in Germany

Storing military equipment in a forward staging area was something the US has done for ages.  In West Germany, it was called POMCUS.

POMCUS (Prepositioning Of Materiel Configured in Unit Sets) was a system that kept large amounts of pre-positioned U.S. military equipment in West Germany during the Cold War.

When I was an Infantry Lieutenant, I guarded two different POMCUS sites in Germany.

I lived in a forward-deployed staging area before I was sent to Afghanistan in 2001/2002.

The US equipment was very well maintained in all cases. Pristine, as a matter of fact.  I compare this with the conditions under which I’ve seen Russian equipment staged outside Ukraine – miserable.

I couldn’t find a doctrinal name in JP 3-35, Deployment and Redeployment Operations, but it is most likely known as something like a “Pre-positioned force, equipment, or supplies program”.

Russia keeps provoking the US.  Neither the US or NATO have ever attacked Russia, but Russia always warns its citizens that NATO will attack.

This will make Russia apoplectic. Pshaw. To paraphrase Queen Victoria, ‘We are amused’.

The US is most certainly not at war with Russia, but it will be ready if necessary.

ps. President Poroshenko is doing all the right stuff during his visit to the US. Russia is going to go crazy.

The optics of this visit are fabulous. Trump did the Russians more propaganda damage in one day than Obama did in more than two years.

We are already seeing a firehose out of Sputnik:

In the meantime, the media in Ukraine was not going to miss an opportunity like this:

Russia can call this a ‘political trick’ all the want. Winner: Ukraine.

The United States and Ukraine might sign a security agreement stipulating for placement of American military equipment in Ukraine.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Ukrainski Novyny, this was announced by the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii on air of ICTV channel.

“It [the agreement – ed.] stipulates for conducting of special operations, holding joint research and development, and even placement of military reserves of the United States of America on Ukrainian territory,” he said.

The speaker said the U.S. has long practiced such agreements and has ones with Japan, Australia, and Israel.

Parubii said the agreement will provide a priority right for provision of defensive lethal weapons. The speaker believes the matter of the lethal weapons for Ukraine might be addressed in the near future.
