PSYOP and Disinformation

Seldom do I experience a real whopper of lie, but this one is notable.

Ukrainian military helicopters distributed a flyer on how to keep safe if there is a Russian invasion.

Instructions for surviving under Russian terrorist occupation distributed in Sloviansk

So far, so good.

Then somebody spread a good lie.  Here’s the perp.  Oh sorry, this is the Twitter name for the person who spread this classic disinformation.

Don’t carry the leaflets into your house! 20 min ago in Sloviansk I caught a leaflet dropped from a plane, took it inside to scan it and send to life news, while I was scanning it spread a strange smell, I took it outside, my child started feeling bad, I took everyone at home outside.

While the reference to LifeNews (a classic Russian “news” site) was amusing, the assertion that the Ukrainian military had soaked the leaflets in a chemical warfare solution was ludicrous, almost laughable.  But most of the target audience of this Disinformation Tactic wouldn’t know that.  Now all they have is a possibly strong fear of getting sick.
